Revisiting Coinjock & reconnecting with friends

4/30/22

The next stop north is Coinjock, a short 37 miles away. This trek requires crossing Albermarle Sound, which has a reputation for being rough water but we had a smooth passage (with little buddy on our stern) and pulled into Coinjock in the early afternoon.

Traveling on the ICW

We are now anxious to get to several destinations in the Chesapeake and a short day seems a little wasted. However, the next leg from Coinjock to Norfolk is a long day due to bridge opening schedules slow passage areas and a lock transit, which makes Coinjock the logical place to stop for boats traveling in both directions.

This marina has long face docks on both sides of narrow (400ft?) river. Docking preference is given to boats that make reservations -the east side is next to the restaurant and ships store. Late comers may be rafted next to boats that arrived earlier or banished to the west side (as we were on the way south). Well worth making a reservation here.

The restaurant at Coinjock is known for their prime rib, which has to be reserved earlier in the day. Future ICW travelers take note:…the prime rib is worth doing. They serve a spectacular hunk of cow that left us waddling down the dock.

We also enjoyed the company of Wane & Julie (Netop – Touisset RI) for dinner and subsequent discussion of world problems and inane movies…a most pleasant evening!

Tomorrow will be our last day on the ICW before we start 600 mile voyage back to Rhode Island. Damn this has been fun!
