Atlantic City

5/25/22

The trip from Cape May to Atlantic City was timed to coincide with the current at Abescon Inlet (entrance from the ocean into Atlantic City). We left Cape May at 7:30 in a flotilla, all monitoring ch 14 and occasional exchanging information about weather and sea conditions. We stayed with the 8 knot trawlers and were passed by speedier sport fisherman and a couple of smaller Ranger Tugs. Overall, it was a peaceful ride and easy entrance (with the current) into the inlet. Our plan was to refuel at Kammerman Marine before our next (90 mile day) up the New Jersey coast. At $6.98 a gallon, we decided to pass on refueling here.

We tied up at Farley State Marina which is located (and affiliated with) the Golden Nugget Casino. A rocking band was performing for a Sunday afternoon crowd and we joined them on the deck.

Dockside conversations concluded that the weather, for our next long jaunt up the Jersey shore, looked ugly for the next week. However, we were traveling in company with some loopers who wanted to get to the Erie Canal and another couple from Maine, who were headed home after a winter afloat, and so we decided to compare forecasts at a docktails/weather/planning discussion under the Awning at the Golden Nugget. The conclusion was that Wednesday was the least ugly day to trek the 90 miles up the coast and early morning was the better time to travel. The meeting adjourned to the rooftop pool area for dinner and those of us with a more aggressive agenda, agreed to start out around zero-dark-thirty (about 5:30 am).
