Welcome to our blog

We are Kathy & Dave Ashton and plan to use this space to chronicle our voyage from Rhode Island to Florida aboard our Nordic Tug “SkipStone”. The grand plan is to leave around the middle of October (2021) and cruise south until mid November. Then find a place to keep the boat for a few months, fly home for the holidays and return in January. We then hope to cruise Florida during the winter months, fly home in March/April and return by air, to Florida in April/May, to bring the boat back to Rhode Island.
While thousands of people have done this trip, this is the first time for us. We have kept our itinerary loose to allow time to explore and discover our own cruising pace. We’ll try to share our insights & experiences with you, while adding some navigation details for all the vicarious voyagers who may one day make this trip themselves.
SkipStone is equipped with AIS (automated information system) and whenever we are underway, our position may be tracked on MarineTraffic.com. We show up as Skipstone. Touch our icon and you will see a picture of our boat. Add us to “my fleet” and you will see our last position each time you visit the site. If it looks like we’re about to do something stupid, call us, because we are newbies at this and need all the help we can get.

So excited!
