74 miles down the Chesapeake and we stopped at Tidewater Marine in Portsmouth Virginia. The weather was predicted to be exactly the same as yesterday, but today we had gentle rolling swells and kept up a 10 knot pace. As you can see from the AIS on Marine Traffic, we had a lot of company going in the same direction and when we tied up in Portsmouth, we met another couple from Jamestown RI. After a little conversation, we found out that her parents were good friends of Ed Weber (for our Terrace readers) small world!
We now know that we are in the south. Breathe, wait and down shift to decaf, things don’t happen quickly, but they will eventually happen…pleasantly. Holding hands on the street and we were greeted with, Y’all take care of that lady”. Pass a group on the sidewalk and you’ll hear, “Pleasant evening to you both”. Lots of engaging smiles, not so many teeth.
We took a day off from traveling to prepare for the next part of our journey. Tomorrow we enter the Intracoastal Waterway and this requires an adjusted mindset. During the next two weeks, we will be traveling through canals, sounds and bays. We have switched navigation modes (for our vicarious voyagers) from Navionics to Aquamaps, so that we can see the sonar plots of the relatively shallow passes. Aquamaps provide a color coded path…green is good (deep enough) , red is bad (oops).
We also struggled to upload and publish this blog. Kathy spent hours resizing pictures while I wrote a few lines and went to bed. The blog technology has been more challenging than the navigation.
We are thankful for several heat sources on Skip Stone…it’s colder than anticipated. Maybe we need to stow our T shirts and buy more sweat shirts….
You both give us lots of laughs, thank you. Paul checks on you in the morning and checks to see where to stay each night! Hoping for clear skies, gentle breeze and lots of laughs…Donna
Love that, Donna and Paul. Glad you’re enjoying!
I hope I didn’t guilt you into updating the blog Dave! Be sure to have some sweet-tea (said as one word) with your hush puppies. We love and miss you! Michael & Elissa
Had hush puppies yesterday…amazing. But I was also having a key lime martini 😉.
