South Florida on the Weekend

In a misfortune of timing, we transited Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami on 2 consecutive Saturdays. Picture George Burns driving a Winnebago in the Indianapolis 500 with a sprinkling of golf carts, skateboards, motor cycles, kids playing marbles and a squirrel mixed in for added excitement. Floridians take to the water on their days off with an alarming lack of situational awareness. Cigarette boats with bows full of babes, overloaded pontoon boats of morning cocktailers, mega yachts barging into orderly lines of boats waiting for a bridge opening, jet skis buzzing around like mad hornets and day trippers without a clue about the rules of the road. A total madhouse of maritime mayhem. Much stress, anxiety, confusion and f bombs. One Radio transmission instructed a bridge tender, ”I am ze captin OPEN ZE BRIDGE”. We will return through these waters on weekdays and hope for a more considered crowd.

Congestion…
Confusion….
Boats…babes….bow

Aggressive boat moving to the front of the line

High dive platforms…belly flop, anyone?
Fort Lauderdale behind….

Miami ahead, oh God!
We own the channel, just step aside

  1. The high dive looks like the one at the swimming hall of fame next to Bahia Mar. We were there for a few nights.
